Before taking office, I knew our Hillsborough County government was
wasting taxpayer money, but the actual extent of the problem blew me
away.
We pay the 3rd highest taxes in the state, yet politicians want more
of our hard-earned money. I was put on the board by taxpayers who want
a leader to roll up their sleeves and get to the bottom of what's
really going on with our budget. That's what I've done.
Our infrastructure in Hillsborough County is crumbling despite county
government collecting billions in tax dollars earmarked for
infrastructure. Over the last 18 years, very little of the yearly
maintenance fund actually went to funding road and infrastructure
repairs—most years as little as 5-10%. So where has our money
gone? Pet projects and insiders. I uncovered that over
$235 million in property taxes were going to fund
non-government organizations with no oversight.
Our county government has a spending problem. To fund their wasteful
spending, they keep asking us for more of our hard-earned money.
Residents are already struggling—seniors on fixed incomes are
being taxed out of their homes, families are living
paycheck-to-paycheck, young couples can't start their families, and
small businesses are fighting to keep their doors open.
I'm fighting for you on the Hillsborough County Board. I am bringing
accountability and transparency in an effort to stop the unsustainable
wasteful spending and ensure our tax dollars are finally being used to
fix our county's crumbling infrastructure. I've voted against 4
different property tax increase attempts. I developed a creative plan
to change how we tax our residents for mileage, which has increased
revenue while lowering property taxes. And I'm finding millions of
dollars that should be going towards fixing our roads.
I'm not a politician — I'm just a regular guy who focuses on
getting the job done.
I'm the "boring budget guy" and I'm proud of that title. I'm not a
politician—I'm just a regular guy who focuses on getting the job
done, like I did in the Navy during Operation Enduring Freedom, when I
came home and rehabilitated the finances of a struggling family-owned
manufacturing company, and in my successful small business.
Please vote for me so I can continue to fight for the working families
in Hillsborough County.
